'A Calm Tuesday Morning (5:47am)' by Alex Kiesling

Our much anticipated second publication with Alex Kiesling is imagined as playing off in the same eerily beautiful universe as the artist's first print with Flood House ('Troll' 2021) and brought to life in this limited edition hand-pulled silkscreen print.

Hidden in a purplish/blue monochromatic composition a figure stares. Behind the foliage of flower petals eyes stare back at us with fear or unpredictable interest. This begs the question, are we watching someone hiding or stalking? And whose position are we assuming, hunter or prey?

Alex himself did the colour separation for this edition of prints. Printed in 10 colours on cotton rag paper, we started by laying down mid tones moving to the darkest tones and finally printing highlights, bringing the work to life. A soft green is wedged between two shades of golden yellow for the iris, with a transparent red for the veins in the eyes. This limited edition run of prints was printed with medium and course FM dots to translate a soft, almost sculptural feeling.
